Road Trip: Day 74

Posted: October 10, 2016 by timjollymore in Uncategorized

Dateline: Owatanna, Minnesota and Mason City, Iowa

I feel like I am on an architectural as well as a book tour. It’s all about Prairie Style. First is the Louis Sullivan bank building in Owatanna, which last year I photographed from outside. Forewarned that the bank closes early, I went inside as soon as I set up at Li’l Professor Book Center. Result? A marvel, as you can see.

The space is so open, so grand, so lofty that one cannot feel cornered, but corners abound:

The vault is inspiring, and I don’t mean the bank vault. The building interior is open from pavement to rooftop  (look at the inside, then the outside to see just how grand it is).

Little Professor Book Center is a worthy counterpoint to Wells Fargo (the unfortunate banker-tenant at the Sullivan temple).

The brick work is quite nice. Yes, those are my books, boxes and placards, too.

Tell it like it is!
